This is the first time that I've had my work featured on
bit-tech, and I'm very happy to showcase my latest mod to you all.

There is a saying in casemod circles that a casemod is never done. I’m sure you will think so too, while reading this worklog. This is really a casemod that continues to grow - literally! This is the final product:

The story of the
Extreme Lian Li starts back in 2002, when I came upon a case mod by Tom Versteeg, during a local Home Computer Club computer exchange. That man had built one sweet case mod. Back then, I was totally unaware of the phenomenon of case modding. Inspired, I started looking around on the internet, finding new ideas and tips and tricks. I decided to give modding a whirl, and I bought a Lian Li PC70 to make my first case mod.

Kicking off
The first thing I used was some showerhose to sleeve up my system cables,
a la Orac3. I also made some chrome junction boxes. I was also inspired by the 2Fast, 2Furious case mod by Neander.

Starting with a chrome theme for the interior, I polished up the drive bays for a little extra bling. I also had the casings for the PSU and the CD-ROM professionally chromed. 从表面镀鉻主体开始，我把设备盒作了润色。当然PSU和CD-ROM也作了润色。

Getting the wiring together was a bit of a nightmare - there was a lot of it! However, with some shower hose cunningness, I think the job came together pretty well.

I glued some tear-drop foil to the inside of the case to give a little bit of an industrial feel. With the first phase done - and the main PC70 interior now decked out shinily - it was time to move on and 'grow' the case a little more.

Stealthing

Because of the Koolance Exos watercooling I was using, there were a heck of a lot of tubing to be stealthed. Tidying it all away and cutting it to the right length was quite a job.

I tried etching some lettering into the bottom of the PC70. Not a great choice of font to be honest! My mate Tom Versteeg suggested stealthing the drives behind some custom Lian Li faceplates, and that sounded like a good idea.
我尝试在PC70的底部刻上一些字母。没有几种正派的字体选择！我的伙计Tom Versteeg建议我把设备隐藏在定制的联力面板后面，这个主意看起来不错。
The stealthed drivebays, combined with the light leak out through the main chassis, combine to make a pretty gorgeous effect from the front on.

I decided that the Koolance Exos system looked lame on the PC70, and set about trying to come up with something a little bit better.

How about a frame to sit on top of the case? I built this from aluminium rods to house some hardcore watercooling equipment. Double pumps and triple rads? Sounded like a good idea.

I added on some grills for the fans, and sat the whole ensemble on top of the PC70.

I wanted to keep the front looking fairly minimalist. I mounted reservoirs at the front using my handy glue.
我想保持前面板完全的极简抽象派艺术感。我胶水把水箱粘在前面板上。
Keeping the whole thing glued and clamped together with liberal sprinklings of masking tape!

I glued a poster of space to the back of the watercooling housing. Adds a little bit of character!

I decided to go with the space theme on the interior of the main case too.

It's all starting to come together now!

I thought I'd have a second go at engraving something neat to go on the case. I went with a simple description etched into a mirror.
我想我还要在机箱里雕刻一些东西。搞一个简单的描绘在镜子上。
The side panel for the watercooling box had to look like the side panel of the PC70, so some acrylic and some rivets were in order.
这样水冷箱面板和PC70的面板看起来就有点相像了，有机玻璃和钉子都安装好了。

The watercooling system ended up being rather complicated, with two loops - one for the graphics and one for the CPU and chipset.

Everything up and running - the Innovatek blocks I picked up looked to do the job pretty well. Tidying the wires away was a tough job.

I didn't want any screw holes to marr the appearance of my aluminium box, so I ended up gluing the whole thing - keeping it in shape was pretty tough, but an army of clamps was drafted in to do the job!

As the glue finished setting, I started playing with the lighting and seeing how the whole thing looked.

And with that, phase 2 of the project was finished. Happy with my creation, I took it back to the HCC exchange in Utrecht, the same place that I found the inspiration for my mod!

The biggest problem with making a casemod is that by the time you're done, the hardware inside has gone obsolete. Luckily for me, the guys at Point of View graphics arranged to hook me up with some nice SLI hardware, so I had to integrate that into the Lian Li.

SLI means dual waterblocks, and I wanted to get them nice and shiny to match the rest of the case.

All done, the result is very nice.

I decided to hook in a Prometia Mach GT2, but the Lian Li kit for the GT2 only fits a PC60 chassis. I ended up making an extension to that system.
我决定挂一个Prometea Mach GT2，但在联力能适合安装GT2的只有PC60系列。我最终在那个系统上面增加了一部分。

Cutting it

I cut an XCS logo in the sidepanel using a small saw.
我用小刀在边面板上切割了一个XCS logo。
The whole thing assembled. I lent the machine to Point of View to take to CeBit, and this was the state it went in.

However, I wasn't truly happy. The dimensions of the watercooling box were different from the Prometia box, and I wanted them to match. So, post-CeBit, I knew my task was to make the whole thing more uniform.

I wanted to pull the whole thing together and make it look less like the parts had just been stacked on top of each other. I decided to create a 'sandwich' out of thick acrylic that would hopefully diffuse some of the light from the main case.

I replaced the whole watercooling section with a new homemade case that was the same size as the Prometia case on the bottom.

I decided to mount the reservoir and dual radiator on top.
我决定把水箱和双12冷排安装在顶部。
This time, I left off the space poster, but I made everything with mirror plexi-glass for more bling-bling!
这回，我留下了不少空间，这样我把表面全部弄得像镜子一样光滑。

For a finishing touch, I had the pump housings chromed too.

At this stage, I'm almost done, but not quite. Time for some final tweaks to the Prometia box.

I removed the extension I had made from the Prometia box and extended it using aluminium framing. I also took out the logo I had cut in the side panel and put in a matching case window.
我移除掉以前给空气压缩机箱做的面板，改用铝框架。我把他放进了主机箱窗口里。
I wanted to use more mirrored plexi-glass around the inside of the box. One of the most difficult tasks was drilling this accurately. I had to use an chunky electric saw to cut some of the parts.
我想用更多地抛光玻璃放进这个机箱。最艰难的任务之一就是精确的钻孔。我用一个厚实的电动刀来切割这些部分。
I stealthed the electronics for the Prometia behind some of the glass. The wiring was tidied up with some left over sleeving.

I added in a red CCFL. It ended up a bit pink, but it looks more red in the dark! In the end, I ended up going back to green - maybe red for the next case mod!
我加了一根红色灯管。最终变成桃红色，但是在黑暗之中他看起来更加红！最后我还是改成了绿色 – 也许红色是下一个作品用的。

So, everything is done. This is the Extreme Lian Li as it is now. I'm really happy with the job I did, especially as it was my first case mod! I'll leave you with the rig specs and some larger shots of the finished thing.
